Lumbini

Lumbini is a city located in the Rupandehi district of Province No. 5 in Nepal. It is a pilgrimage site for Buddhists.  In 1997, UNESCO declared  Lumbini as a World Heritage site. According to the Buddhist scripture, it is believed that it is the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. It is a place where Queen Mahamayadevi gave birth to Siddharta  Gautama in around 563BC.  There are many temples in Lumbini one of the famous temples is Maya Devi temple, China temple, Korean temple, and many temples are under construction.

Lumbini has a number of older temples, including the Mayadevi Temple, and various new temples, Founded by Buddhist organizations from various countries. Many monuments, monasteries, and a museum, and the Lumbini International Research Institute are also within the holy site. Also, there is the Puskarini, or Holy Pond, where the Buddha's mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth and where he had his first bath. At other sites near Lumbini, earlier Buddhas were, according to tradition, born, then achieved ultimate Enlightenment and finally relinquished their earthly forms.

  How to reach Lumbini?

The best way to reach Lumbini is from Gorakhpur. Better to travel from your city to the Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh via train, flight or taxi or bus which fits in your budget. Maya devi temple
Mayadevi Temple

It is one of the very famous temples in Lumbini located in the Mayadevi Complex. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. According to the Buddhist scripture, the Mayadevi temple is considered as the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. Mayadevi Temple was designed by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange in 1978. Bhodi tree in Lumbini is located in Mayadevi Complex right to the scared pool called Puskami. Bhodi Tree also called as Bo or pipal tree under which Siddhartha Gautama is said to have attained enlightenment. On 8 Dec, Bodhi day is celebrated as on that day Buddha's enlightenment underneath the Bhodi Tree.

World Peace Pagoda
World Peace Pagoda

World Peace Pagoda is also known as Japan Peace was established in November 2001. It symbolizes peace and promotes harmony in humans, especially after World War II. It is a famous tourist attraction place in Lumbini. It is located outside the main compound, the structure is a glorious stupa with traditional pagoda style architecture. It was constructed by Japanese Buddhist at a cost of US $1 million, the monument is colored white with a golden buddha statue. The majestic construction has a dome in the center that can be reached by climbing one of the two steps of stairs leading to it. On the second level, there's a passage circling the dome.

Ashoka Pillar
Ashoka Pillar

Ashoka Pillar was discovered by General Khadga Samsher and Alosis Anton Fuhrer in 1896. It is located in Mayadevi Complex, as a mark of respect by Ashoka after he visited Lord Buddha's place of birth and decided to accept Buddhism. The interesting saga behind the monument and its spiritual significance make the Ashokan Pillar a must-visit site for history, religious and architectural enthusiasts.

Myanmar Golden Temple
Myanmar Golden Temple

Myanmar Golden Temple in Lumbini is the oldest structure of the city. It is built in the Burmese style of architecture and the temple is dedicated to Lord Buddha. The impressive corncob-shaped shikhara, styled after the temples of Bagan gives a regal look to the whole structure. There are three prayer halls and a Lokamani Pula Pagoda inside the building.

Lumbini Museum

Lumbini Museum is located inside the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sacred Garden Area. Lumbini Museum exhibits about 12000 artifacts ranging from day-to-day use crafts to stamps related to Lumbini or Buddha. Their collection of books on architecture, cultural life and artifacts go more than 12000 in number; they also have collections of terra cottas, religious manuscripts, coins from Maurya and Khusana dynasty. and stamps from all over the world depicting Lumbini. Lumbini International Research Institute (LIRI) established in 1970, is located just opposite of Lumbini Museum, providing complete researching facilities for the study of Buddhism and religion in general.

Royal Thai Monastery
Royal Thai Monastery

Royal Thai Monastery in Lumbini is an imposing and stunning wat-style (Thai Monastery style) monastery dedicated to Buddhist practices. The gleaming building is constructed from white marble and the blue-roofed meditation centre closeby is an example of a fine architectural style. The beautiful designs and carving on the temple wall makes this place a must-visit.

Lumbini Monastic Site
Lumbini Monastic Site

Lumbini Monastic Site is a complex housing various temples and monasteries maintained to give insights into the life of Gautama Buddha, to help understand the importance of Buddhism, its propagation, evolution and the system of belief that acts as a common string to help maintain harmonious associations between several countries. 
The Monastic Site is divided into two sections by a water canal which is often used by tourists to explore on motorboats. The eastward section is called the East Monastic Zone, where Theravada Buddhism is prevalent, and the westward zone is called the West Monastic Zone, where Vajrayana and Mahayana are predominant. Once inside, one is only in touch with the culture, traditions, and history of Buddhism.
 
 
 Manang Samaj Stupa
World Peace Pagoda

A chorten created by Buddhists from Manang in Northern Nepal, the Manang Samaj Stupa is known to be one of the oldest Stupas in Nepal, dating back to the birth of Gautam Buddha in 600 BC. There is a golden Buddha Statue in the middle of this building and is surrounded by colorful murals. At present, this attraction is believed that it will go under renovation soon.
