It was declared a bird sanctuary in April 1969.Nalsarovar Lake is one of the three reservoirs that flank the area of Sasan-Gir. It is home to several water birds and migratory birds due to which it is also known as the birdwatchers paradise.

Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden also known as Sakkarbaug Zoo or Junagadh Zoo is a 200-hectare zoo that opened in 1863 at Junagadh, Gujarat, India. The zoo provides purebred Asiatic lions for the Indian and the international endangered species captive breeding program for the critically endangered species. The Junagadh Zoo is situated in the Junagadh district and is mainly known for its Gir lions. This zoo was built by Nawab in 1863 with the motive of saving these lions from extinction. Now, this zoo has turned into an established safari park.
